With its picturesque surroundings and vibrant atmosphere, it has been a source of joy for its members for decades. But on this particular day, the tennis court became the stage for a truly legendary moment.

The first serve was hit, and as the ball soared through the air, a hush fell over the crowd. Suddenly, a gust of wind blew across the court, carrying with it a sense of otherworldly magic. The spectators gasped in awe as they realized they were witnessing something extraordinary.

The gods of Ashover, who typically remained unseen and unheard, had decided to make their presence known. From their celestial vantage point, they gazed down upon the tennis court, curious and captivated by the skill and determination of the players below.

The game intensified, and with each shot, the gods could not help but be impressed. It was as if the players had tapped into a divine energy, moving with grace and finesse that surpassed human capabilities. The gods, being experts in the art of sport, appreciated the display of athletic prowess unfolding before their eyes.

But it was not only the players who amazed the gods. The atmosphere at the Ashover Tennis Club was electric, with supporters cheering and clapping for both sides. The gods were delighted by the camaraderie and sportsmanship on display, realizing that this humble tennis club had fostered a true sense of community.

As the match reached its climax, a bolt of lightning crackled across the sky, illuminating the entire village. The gods, in their celestial abode, cheered and applauded the players, their excitement and appreciation echoing through the heavens.

When the game finally concluded, the gods showered the victorious players with a soft rain of petals, a sign of their approval and blessing. The players looked up in wonder and gratitude, humbled by the divine recognition they had received.

News of this extraordinary event quickly spread throughout the village of Ashover. The tennis club, always cherished, became even more revered as people flocked to witness the court where the gods themselves had descended.

The gods' visitation left a lasting impact on the Ashover Tennis Club. Where once it had been a well-kept secret, it now became a renowned destination for tennis enthusiasts. People would travel from far and wide, hoping to catch a glimpse of the court that had captured the attention of the gods.

But perhaps the most significant change was the spirit of the club itself. Inspired by the gods' presence, members of the tennis club fostered a renewed passion for the game. They played with renewed vigor and determination, striving to reach new heights in their abilities.

Years later, the story of the gods' visit is still told with great reverence in Ashover. The tennis club stands as a testament to the harmonious relationship between heaven and earth, reminding all who visit of the power of sport and community.

So, if you find yourself in Ashover, don't miss the opportunity to visit the legendary tennis club that once captured the attention of the gods. Who knows, you might just catch a glimpse of divine inspiration on the court.

This book was started to document the history of Ashover Tennis Club, but took on a life of it’s own when the club was taken to judicial court by a disgruntled member of the club! This is the story of Ashover Tennis Club’s battles on the tennis courts and in the judicial courts. Two courts were built in 1972. In 1979 the parish council decided to form a tennis club. Ashover tennis club was born! The club grew, and organised tournaments were played. The more competitive members of the club wanted to play matches against local clubs. A decision was made to construct a third court which allowed entry into local leagues. As the club was running smoothly, and integrating with local village life, out of the blue, a dispute with a member of the club caused a major problem involving the council, a prominent Member of Parliament, the police, and the judicial system. Three years after the start of the dispute, and the ensuing battle, a court case was finally over.
