Why Israel Is The Victim
For decades, Israel has been at the center of intense geopolitical conflicts and has often been portrayed as the aggressor. However, a closer examination of the historical and current realities reveals that Israel is, in fact, the victim in this complex and multifaceted situation. This article aims to shed light on some of the key reasons why Israel is often misunderstood and wrongly portrayed.
1. Historical Context
The establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 was preceded by centuries of Jewish presence in the land. Jews have a deep historical connection to the region, dating back thousands of years. Israel's creation was a response to a call for a Jewish homeland and a refuge for survivors of the Holocaust, providing a safe haven for persecuted Jews around the world.
However, neighboring Arab countries refused to accept the existence of Israel and launched a series of wars to wipe it off the map. Israel's victory in the war of independence was followed by defensive wars against unprovoked attacks from its Arab neighbors. Despite being heavily outnumbered, Israel managed to defend itself against multiple threats, leading to territorial gains in some cases.

The historical context is essential to understand why Israel sometimes takes strong measures to ensure its security and survival.
2. Constant Threats
Israel is often condemned for its military actions in response to security threats. However, it is important to recognize that Israel is facing constant threats posed by terror organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as hostile state actors like Iran.
Their tactics range from rocket attacks on civilian populations to suicide bombings in public places. Israel is forced to invest heavily in defense systems and intelligence to protect its citizens. The country's security measures, including control over borders and checkpoints, aim to prevent the infiltration of terrorists and weapons.
When Israel responds to attacks, it does so out of a necessity to protect its citizens and ensure their safety. Unfortunately, this defensive stance is often misconstrued in the media and international community.
3. Double Standards
Israel faces a significant amount of international criticism that often goes beyond what is directed at other nations involved in conflict situations. This can be attributed to double standards and biased reporting.
On numerous occasions, Israel has been held to a higher moral standard compared to its adversaries. The complexity of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is oversimplified, and blame is often disproportionately assigned to Israel. This biased narrative leads to an erroneous understanding of the situation and fuels the perception that Israel is the aggressor.
4. Desire for Peace
Contrary to the popular narrative, Israel genuinely seeks peace with its neighbors and has demonstrated its commitment to this goal on multiple occasions. Israel has made significant territorial concessions in the past, such as withdrawing from the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip, in the pursuit of peace agreements.
However, peace efforts have been often met with rejection and continued violence by radical groups. The unwillingness of certain parties to accept Israel's right to exist hampers any progress towards a lasting peace settlement.
5. Humanitarian Values
Israel is often criticized for its military actions, but its society is built upon strong democratic values and respect for human rights. Israel faces immense challenges in balancing its security needs with the protection of civilian lives.
Israeli soldiers are trained to prioritize minimizing civilian casualties, even in the face of imminent danger. This approach is exemplified by going to great lengths to provide humanitarian aid to those in need, including medical treatment to wounded individuals from conflict zones, regardless of their background.
Israel's portrayal as the aggressor in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict overlooks the historical context, constant security threats, biased reporting, desire for peace, and humanitarian values that define the nation. It is crucial to understand the complexities of the situation and approach the topic with an open mind, free from biased preconceptions.
By doing so, we can promote dialogue and work towards a just and lasting resolution that respects the rights and security of both Israelis and Palestinians.

Israel, the only democracy in a desert of tyranny and oppression, has been become a pariah nation as a result of the unrelenting radical propaganda devised by the unholy alliance of Islamists and the radical Left. David Horowitz’s classic Why Israel is the Victim, updated by the author, sets the record straight about the basic truths of the Middle East conflict. In addition to restoring the authentic history of the region – a history of obsessive aggression first by Arab countries determined to physically annihilate the Jewish State and later by terror groups determined to destroy its will to survive and right to exist—this booklet brings the story up to date by showing the systematic way in which Hamas and Hezbollah, under Iran’s direction, have subverted peace in the Middle East. As Shillman Fellow Daniel Greenfield notes in his insightful , this pamphlet “tells us why we should reject the “Blame Israel First” narrative that has so thoroughly saturated the mainstream media… It confronts the myth of Palestinian victimhood… and it delivers a rousing restatement of the true history of the hate that led us to all this.” America should be Israel’s protector. Instead, as David Horowitz notes, under the leadership of Barack Obama, it has become its prosecutor.
