For more than ten years now, I have been venturing out to remote and wild mountain streams in search of Turkey’s native brown trout. In a way, this has become my mission, as I found myself racing against the destruction caused by the rapid incursions into these areas of so called “civilization”. As I travelled to many different regions in search of brown trout, I noticed the physical uniqueness this creature possesses in every different stream - the morphological features strikingly different from one watershed to the next. My admiration increased and my horizon broadened when I got my hands on James Prosek’s book, Trout of the World. I was reborn at that moment and realized that this country, containing the headwaters of the Tigris and the Euphrates and plenty of streams flowing into four different seas, could be my fishing playground.

In this book you will be reading about my fishing trips and viewing the photographs of trout that I encountered in the Mediterranean region of the country. Unlike my peer James Prosek, I do not have much talent as a painter, but I took photos of different specimens and strains of brown trout that I encountered with the aim of showing the diverse physical beauty they possess. This book may create more public awareness of the status of the native brown trout of Turkey, most of which, unfortunately, are facing extinction through loss of habitat.
