Science and mythology have long been seen as opposing forces, with scientific progress often debunking ancient stories and beliefs. However, in recent times, we have witnessed a curious phenomenon - the emergence of science itself as a subject of fascination, awe, and even blind devotion. Science, it seems, has taken on a divine status, with its own set of dogmas and disciples. In this article, we explore the concept of a soulless goddess and question whether science is starting to resemble a modern-day fairy tale.

The Science of Mythology

Mythology has always provided humans with a way to make sense of the world and explain natural phenomena. Ancient civilizations relied on stories of gods and goddesses to understand the forces at work in their surroundings. From Greek mythology to Norse legends, these tales filled the gaps in their knowledge and offered a sense of order in a chaotic world.

In our modern era, science has taken over the role of explanatory mythology. With its focus on empirical evidence and logical reasoning, science has answered many questions that were once attributed to supernatural forces. The rapid advancements in technology and our understanding of the universe have only strengthened science's position as the ultimate authority. But has our reverence for science transcended its purpose?

The Soulless Goddess

Traditionally, myths and legends are filled with vibrant characters and fantastical elements. Gods and goddesses possess unique personalities, emotions, and motivations. They are relatable entities that connect humans to the world around them. Science, on the other hand, is often perceived as a cold and impersonal discipline. Its findings are objective, its language precise. It lacks the human touch that myths offer.

This lack of emotion in science has caused some to argue that it is becoming a soulless goddess. Science, they claim, has taken on a deity-like status, demanding unquestioning faith from its followers. Its proponents idolize scientists and their discoveries, treating them as infallible sources of truth. Science is seen as the ultimate arbiter of reality, with no room for subjective experiences or alternative interpretations.

The Dogma of Science

Just like myths have their dogmas and scriptures, science too has its own set of rules and protocols. The scientific method provides a framework for investigation, ensuring objectivity and reproducibility. However, adherence to this method has become a dogma in itself, stifling creativity and limiting exploration of unconventional ideas. Science has become less about curiosity and more about reinforcing existing beliefs.

This dogmatic approach is reflected in the academia-industry complex, where only research that aligns with established perspectives is funded and acknowledged. This restrictive environment discourages scientists from questioning orthodox theories and exploring uncharted territories. The quest for knowledge has been replaced by the pursuit of grants and publication records, leading to a narrow and standardized version of scientific progress.

A Fairy Tale in the Making?

With its rigid dogmas and limited scope for subjective experiences, science is starting to resemble a fairy tale in which individual agency is lost. It presents a linear narrative, offering an illusion of progress, while dismissing any dissenting voices. However, just as with myths and legends, blind devotion to science can lead to complacency and an aversion to new perspectives.

While science has undeniably reshaped our world and considerably advanced our knowledge, it is important to maintain a healthy skepticism and recognize its limitations. Science should serve as a guiding light, not as an unquestionable truth that stifles creativity and critical thinking. By acknowledging the parallels between science and mythology, we can appreciate the beauty of both in our quest for understanding.

Science, with its emphasis on evidence, reason, and logical thinking, has often been positioned as the antithesis of mythology. However, as our understanding of science deepens, it is crucial to question the blind devotion and dogmatic adherence that sometimes obscures its true essence. Science should not be worshipped like a soulless goddess; rather, it should be an ever-evolving path of exploration and open-mindedness.

The book is an attempt to explain that "science" is not, as is usually claimed, an undeniable "universal truth but a "faith" of its own kind. And although science is often projected as an "undisputed truth" that is based on the objective and systematic observation of the material world around us, but its findings are never without assumptions and suppositions. For example, science assumes that things and events in the observable universe occur in consistent patters. However, it ignores the fact that material world is a constantly changing phenomenon as Heraclitus (the Greek Philosopher) famously put it: "you can not step in the same river twice, for the waters are constantly flowing on." And then the observer of the outside material world is also not the same man as he is also being constantly affected by the changing surroundings. The point is that the "reality" or "outside reality" is utterly particular (as things/events are always in flux) and hence no matter how well one theory explains a set of observations, nothing could truly be established or affirmed. Therefore, in spite of all claims and assertions, there is no way to secure completed and absolute truth. Thus it can be concluded that science is not merely a collection of "pure facts" and has a very much fictional dimension just as can be mostly true of other organized and formal branches of knowledge, such as "History," "Biographies," and "Novels."

Similarly, belief in God (that is an anathema to atheists like Richard Dawkins ) is also not like belief in "aliens or "tooth fairy." Therefore, trying to find a God ( if He could be lost ) is an absurd idea because science has not even been able yet to fully grasp the idea of life and death.
