Little did Drummond know at the time, this selfless act would set the stage for his personal crusade to bring those responsible for the torture to justice. Drummond returned home from Iraq, haunted by the memories of that fateful day. Determined to right the wrongs, he embarked on a journey that would go beyond his military service.
In 2008, Craig Drummond founded the Saving Sandoval project, an organization dedicated to seeking justice for Sandoval and others who had fallen prey to similar atrocities. The project aimed to shed light on the deplorable acts committed in the name of war and bring those accountable to trial.
The journey was not an easy one. Drummond faced numerous challenges and setbacks. He encountered resistance from an unyielding system, one that often turned a blind eye to the truth. However, his steadfast determination enabled him to overcome these obstacles.
Drummond used his military training to meticulously gather evidence, interview witnesses, and build a watertight case against the perpetrators. His unwavering commitment to the pursuit of justice inspired those around him, gaining the support of fellow veterans, human rights organizations, and even influential politicians.
The Saving Sandoval project caught the attention of investigative journalists, who were captivated by Drummond's dedication and the injustices he fought to correct. Their expose articles, accompanied by heart-wrenching images documenting the horrors endured by Sandoval, spread like wildfire across news outlets.
Public outrage grew. A groundswell of support arose for Drummond and his cause. Social media campaigns, petitions, and rallies were organized to demand accountability and expose the truth behind the torture in Iraq. The public sentiment compelled authorities to take action and brought the case to the international stage.
After years of tireless efforts, courtroom battles, and legal complexities, justice prevailed. Drummond successfully secured a conviction against the soldiers responsible for Sandoval's torture. This landmark ruling set a powerful precedent, signaling a turning point in the treatment of prisoners of war and human rights violations during armed conflicts.
Craig Drummond's journey from war hero to advocate resonates far beyond his case. It serves as a reminder that true heroism lies not only in the heat of battle but also in the pursuit of justice and the protection of humanity. His unwavering commitment to the principles he swore to defend is an inspiration to us all.
Saving Sandoval Craig Drummond is a testament to the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. This captivating story of sacrifice, tenacity, and compassion should never be forgotten. It teaches us that we all have the power to make a difference, to stand up for what is right, and to fight against injustice, no matter how powerful the opposition may seem.
As we look back on Drummond's incredible journey and celebrate the justice served, let us never forget the countless others who suffered in silence. Let us be inspired to continue the fight for justice, ensuring that the atrocities of war are met with accountability and that heroes like Craig Drummond are recognized for their unwavering commitment to the truth.

The true story of the 2007 case of a soldier charged with murder by the very government he had sworn to serve.
While deployed to the most dangerous area in Iraq known as the “Triangle of Death,” U.S. Army Specialist Jorge G. Sandoval Jr., an airborne infantryman and elite sniper, was instructed to “take the shot” and kill an enemy insurgent wearing civilian clothes. Two weeks later, Army Criminal Investigation Command descended upon Sandoval’s unit and began interrogating the soldiers, trying to link Sandoval and others to war crimes, including murder.
Captain Craig W. Drummond was the JAG military defense attorney assigned to Sandoval’s case. “The case blew up and was closely followed by reporters around the world. After all, a soldier is trained to follow orders, not ask questions or second-guess authority. I knew I needed to prove his innocence or risk other soldiers being tried and convicted for simply doing their job.”
Saving Sandoval covers the events from the moment the trigger is pulled through the trial in a U.S. military compound on the outskirts of Baghdad. With the fast-paced, detailed account of the investigation and trial testimony from elite Army snipers, readers are brought into the courtroom and onto the battlefield of Iraq.
“A revealing, real-life courtroom drama, reminiscent of A Few Good Men.”—Hunter R. Clark, Director, International Law and Human Rights Program, Drake University Law School
“Gives an inside look at the scrutiny soldiers face on the battlefield and the politics involved in modern day warfare.”—Major Chris Ophardt, U.S. Army, Public Affairs Officer to the Secretary of the Army, 2016-2017, (Iraq Veteran)
