The Classic Breakthrough Study Of UFOs: Unraveling the Mysteries Beyond Earth
Are we truly alone in the vastness of space? For decades, unidentified flying objects (UFOs) have captivated the imaginations of people all over the world. While some dismiss them as mere figments of the collective human psyche, others firmly believe that these sightings hold the key to extraterrestrial life. In this article, we delve into the classic breakthrough study of UFOs that has forever changed our understanding of the unexplained aerial phenomena that continue to bewilder and fascinate us.
The Beginnings of Modern UFO Research
In the late 1940s, the world was awash with stories of unidentified objects spotted in the skies. The most famous sighting, commonly referred to as the "Roswell Incident," occurred in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1947. This incident sparked widespread media attention and thrust the UFO phenomena into the public consciousness.
As public interest grew, renowned researcher Dr. J. Allen Hynek was appointed to investigate these sightings on behalf of the United States Air Force. Initially skeptical, Dr. Hynek took on the role of debunking these UFO reports. However, as he delved deeper into his research, he realized that there was more to these sightings than initially met the eye.

The Birth of Project Blue Book
In 1952, the United States Air Force launched Project Blue Book, an official research effort to investigate UFO sightings. Dr. Hynek played a crucial role in this project, which lasted for over two decades and analyzed thousands of reported sightings.
During his time with Project Blue Book, Dr. Hynek developed a classification system for UFO reports, distinguishing between various types of sightings. These classifications ranged from close encounters of the first kind, involving visual sightings, to close encounters of the third kind, which involved sightings of actual occupants within the UFOs.
Project Blue Book became instrumental in setting the stage for future UFO investigations and debunking common misconceptions surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena.
The Classic Breakthrough Study: The Condon Committee
In the early 1960s, as UFO sightings continued unabated, the United States Air Force sought to put an end to the public fascination by sponsoring an in-depth scientific study. This endeavor led to the formation of the University of Colorado's UFO Project, also known as the Condon Committee.
Under the leadership of Dr. Edward U. Condon, a renowned physicist, the committee aimed to conduct an impartial examination of UFO reports and determine if further scientific investigation was warranted.
The Condon Committee's s, published in the famous "The Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects" report in 1968, garnered significant attention. While the committee categorized the bulk of UFO reports as misidentifications of natural or man-made phenomena, they also acknowledged the existence of a small percentage of cases that remained unexplained.
Legacy and Ongoing Research
The Condon Committee's findings sparked intense debate and controversy within the scientific community. Critics argued that the committee's s were influenced by external pressures, dismissing the entire study as a farce.
Despite the skepticism faced by the Condon Committee, its report marked a significant turning point in the field of UFO research. As a result of the study, many universities and organizations began conducting their own investigations into the phenomena.
Today, organizations such as the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) and the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) continue to collect and analyze UFO reports from around the world. The advent of modern technology, including smartphones and advanced cameras, has made it easier for individuals to document and share their sightings.
The Quest for the Truth
As we embark on the journey to unravel the mysteries beyond Earth, it is essential to approach UFO research with an open mind and critical thinking. While the classic breakthrough study of UFOs provided invaluable insights, the search for definitive answers continues.
Whether UFO sightings are attributable to advanced technology, natural phenomena, or extraterrestrial life remains uncertain. However, what remains clear is that these enigmatic aerial phenomena continue to spark the curiosity and imagination of millions worldwide.
So, as you gaze up at the night sky, always remember that the truth may be out there, waiting to be discovered.

OUR SKIES ARE FILLED WITH TROJAN HORSES...
“The real UFO story must encompass all of the many manifestations being observed. It is a story of ghosts and phantoms and strange mental aberrations; of an invisible world that surrounds us and occasionally engulfs us; of prophets and prophecies, and gods and demons. It is a world of illusion and hallucination where the unreal seems very real, and where reality itself is distorted by strange forces which can seemingly manipulate space, time, and physical matter—forces that are almost entirely beyond our powers of comprehension.”
When this book was first published in 1970, it shredded the then trendy nuts-and-bolts extraterrestrial hypothesis for UFOs in favor of one that linked UFOs to a variety of paranormal and supernatural phenomena that have taken place throughout history. Keel was one of the first to note that the UFO phenomenon appears in different disguises--and that one could not begin to decipher this great mystery without first taking into account its many and varied deliberate deceptions. Other than a few corrections, this Anomalist Books edition essentially follows the original 1970 edition of UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse.
About the Author:
John A. Keel (March 25, 1930 - July 3, 2009) was an American journalist and influential UFOlogist best known as the author of The Mothman Prophecies. In the 1950s, he spent time in Egypt, India, and the Himalayas investigating snake charming cults, the Indian rope trick, and the legendary Yeti, an adventure that culminated in the publication of his first book, Jadoo. In the mid-1960s, he took up investigating UFOs and assorted forteana and published his first knockout UFO book, UFOs: Operation Trojan Horse.
