Discover the Extraordinary Life and Works of Bevis Richard Jefferies

Bevis Richard Jefferies, a name less known to many, was an exceptional figure in the world of English literature and natural history. Through his captivating prose, he painted vivid pictures of the English countryside and its inhabitants. His deep connection with nature and keen observations made his works a unique and compelling contribution to the fields of nature writing and environmentalism.
Early Life and Background
Born on August 14, 1848, in Coate, Wiltshire, England, Jefferies grew up amidst the lush beauty of the countryside, which played a crucial role in shaping his worldview. He spent his childhood exploring the nearby woods and fields, fostering a deep love for the natural world from an early age.
However, his upbringing was not without challenges. The Jefferies family faced financial difficulties, forcing Bevis to leave school at the age of 13 to help support them. Despite the lack of formal education, Jefferies retained an insatiable thirst for knowledge and continued to educate himself through books and nature exploration.

The first of these witnesses Bevis and his friend discover and explore the 'New Sea' and its surroundings. The following story sees two gangs of boys re-enact the Battle of Pharsalia with Bevis and Caesar. The final part of the text concerns itself with the various adventures that Bevis and Mark have when they sail to a little island in the middle of a lake - that they name ''New Formosa''.
