Croatia lies east of the Adriatic Sea and thus on the Balkan Peninsula. The climate is Mediterranean near the coast, inland it becomes continental. BirdLife International has classified 48 areas as IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas). Among the native birds, the diverse raptors are particularly attractive. Among other things, the area of distribution of the vulneralbe Imperial Eagle extends to here with its westernmost extension.
